ONE DAY · GREATER DEPTH

SĀDHANĀ
DAY

A day in the life of a yogi.

Sometimes we simply need to step away from everyday life — from work, our phones, family and everything that asks for our attention.

Sādhanā simply means practice — a day to step aside and give yoga practice your undivided attention in the company of others.

Sādhanā Day is an opportunity to set aside one day and devote it to practice.

THE CALL FOR MORE

Perhaps you
simply want
more.

Perhaps you already practise yoga and/or meditation but feel you would like more time to practise, greater depth, conversation and connection with people who share your interests.

Sādhanā Day is an opportunity to retreat for a day. Not to escape life, but to step temporarily outside its usual rhythm and turn your attention to something else.

Give yourself this time — space to breathe, space to listen and space to practise.

You do not need any prior knowledge. Come as you are — open, receptive and ready to take part.

Is Sādhanā Day for me?

For anyone who wants to go deeper into practice.

For anyone who wants deeper learning and understanding.

For anyone who wants to step out of their daily routine for a day and give practice their full attention.

10:00 – 11:00 Complete practice A complete Hatha Yoga practice +

We begin the morning with a complete Hatha Yoga practice — a way to turn our attention inward and connect with the true source within us.

We work with postures (Āsana), the inward placement of attention (Nyāsa) and breathing practices (Prāṇāyāma) in one continuous practice, preparing body, breath and mind step by step.

The practice ultimately leads us into seated meditation (Dhyāna).

11:00 – 12:00 Theme of the day Hatha and Raja — two sides of the same practice +

We explore the relationship between Hatha and Raja Yoga through a simple image: just as two people marry and form a whole, Hatha and Raja support one another and work together.

Hatha is more concerned with energy and preparation — building and directing vital energy (Prāṇa) and awakening the inner fire (Agni). Without this energy, it is difficult to enter deeper levels of attention.

Raja is more concerned with the mind and what shapes us inwardly. We explore the mind and its field (Citta), habitual patterns of thought and behaviour (Saṃskāra), and deeper tendencies and memories that influence how we experience and respond to life (Vāsanā).

The aim is not to learn complicated terms, but to see simply how the energy we build and the patterns we carry influence each other — and how practice helps us work with both.

12:00 – 14:00 Āsana Lab Forward bends, Vinyāsa Krama and deeper understanding +

We explore forward bends in classical yoga practice, with particular attention to Paścimottānāsana and ways of preparing the body for deeper work.

We examine the principles of forward bending and what the yogis meant by the “western direction” in Paścimottānāsana. We also explore how the pelvis, sacrum and lower back work together, and how different angles change the experience of the posture and where movement takes place.

This session combines practice and exploration. We work together in small groups, observe one another’s movement and learn to recognise more clearly what the body is actually doing in forward bends.

The aim is not simply to move further into the posture, but to gain a deeper understanding of how we get there — and how good adaptation can make practice both more effective and clearer.

14:00 – 15:00 Lunch together Soup, bread and good company +

We end the day together over a light lunch — soup, bread and other accompaniments.

Tea, coffee and light snacks will also be available throughout the day.

There is no further programme at this point — just food, conversation and space to enjoy being together after the day’s practice.
